EBSC Crush 06G Earns Two Silver Medals in Two Brackets in One Tournament in One Day
It was another action packed and game filled Sunday for the EBSC 2006G Crush team who took on the unprecedented task of competing in their own U12 9v9 bracket as well as the U13 11v11 bracket in order to maximize their individual and collective progression.
The girls faced 6 games, back to back, with little more than 5 minutes between each game to change fields and get setup. It was a very tough day in which the girls played their opening fixture at 9 am and finished the day off by concluding their final game at 2 pm.
The girls opened the day with a very professional 1-0 win in the 11v11 bracket and followed that up with a convincing 5-0 win immediately after in the 9v9 bracket.
Then back to the 11v11 and it would be an all EBSC match with the club’s U12s & U13s taking on one another in a very tough and competitive game. The U13 side, managed by Matt Beaglehole, showed their strength by getting the all important goals in a tight game which went the way of the older team with a 3-0 loss suffered by the U12 Crush. However, they quickly bounced back and took all 3 points with a 3-0 win of their own in the 9v9 bracket.
In the girls last 11v11 game they took the lead almost immediately from kickoff through some well worked play, but had the game turn against them when they went 2-1 down in a short space of time. Through great perseverance and continuing to play their style of soccer they got themselves back into the game at 2-2 and sealed the comeback with a late goal to secure second place in the U13 bracket. It was onto the final game of the day for the girls where they fell just short, losing, 2-1, in the final of their 9v9 bracket in which they succumbed to the tiredness, the long day and competitive nature of their previous 5 games in a row.
Going into the Columbus Cup we knew we were taking on a near impossible task and the girls responded as they've always done in the past, by leading from the front, playing their game no matter what the score and ultimately pushing the boundaries and expectations of what should be done by all teams who want to continually progress. Whether they win, lose or draw, the most important thing to take away from what we achieved this weekend is that we all learn.
It was an excellent experience for the girls and I would like to thank all of the parents for helping support their daughters and most of all a big thank you and congratulations to Hilda, Haley, McKenna, Sarah, Mikayla, Savannah, Carmella, Violet, Emma, Danielle, Madison, Samara, Jessica, Julianna, Ashley and Payton for both of their 2nd place finishes.
