Gotham Argo 1 - Flushing FC 2
Gotham Argo returned home to Pier 40 Sunday night looking to take home 3 points and move up the standings. They began with a ferocious start dominating possession in the first half. Gotham's play had a sense of urgency to it, as they were looking to score early and control the entire game. We attacked from all angles using the pace of our midfielders and striker to get in behind the opponents back four. It was only a matter of time before striker, Ezra Rubenstein, received a through ball onto goal but he was taken down from behind for a penalty kick. He stepped up and delivered a clinical finish in the bottom left corner to give Gotham Argo a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
At the start of the 2nd half, the momentum had swung to Flushing FC as Gotham could not maintain the speed of play they had set in the 1st half. Possession stayed even for both teams but the opponent took chances with more shots on goal. Eventually, Flushing FC was able to score an easy tap in to tie the game. At this point, the momentum had completely swung to the opponent's side and the game winning goal was a volley from the top of the 18 near the dying minutes of the match.
