The WCSA would like to congratulate Grand Canyon University for 2 wins on their first road trip of the Spring. On Sat they played Antelope Valley College Men's Club soccer team at Anaverde Foothill Park in Palmdale. GCU came out top, winning 2-1 as all three goals were scored in the first half.
"Regardless of what the score was, I am very proud of the club" said Rafa Gonzalaz. "For all of guys, this their first time playing at the college club level. This is definitely a wake-up call. Now they know what they're up against. We hoping this motivate them to transfer."
Jose Mofica scored the lone goal for AVC on assisted by Randy Pereira. Sergio Rodriquez and Martin Anguiano split time in the goal for the Marauders and Rodriquez made 5 saves and Anguiano recorded 6 saves. Gonzales was also proud of the play of defender Derian Rodriquez, who was the MVP of the Silver Division at the Aztec Cup in San Diego last fall. "He is our Most Valuable Player, our MVP," Gonzalez said. "Without his defense these, they would have score alo more goals on us.
Grand Canyon followed up this victory wth a 2 - 0 shutout of UCI B on Sunday. It was a long trip for Grand Canyon on Super Bowl weekend. We hope to see them keep this momentum up. Grand Canyon will be back in Southern California this weekend to play University of San Diego and CSU San Marcos this weekend.
