Barb Smith (Corning) played softball for the Corning West varsity team for five seasons beginning as an eighth grader...she started as the everyday third baseman as a freshman and became a stalwart on defense and a valuable hitter in the lineup...During her high school career she hit well over .300 including a .400 average as a senior when she was named as Athlete of the Month in April...Barb was named All-STC 2nd team as a sophomore and was first-teamer as a junior and senior...Went to SUNY Cortland for two years before returning home to Corning Community College where she was named the MVP of the 1990 season...she finished her collegiate career with a successful senior season at Mansfield University...Barb was also an All-League performer for West as a volleyball player.
