BILL STEELE III
Basketball - 2000

Bill Steele III graduated from Corning West in 1984 after a stellar career in baseball, basketball and football. He began his high school career at West, transferred to Elmira Notre Dame as a junior and came back to West for his senior season. While he lettered and was named All-League, first team or second team in all three sports, it was on the basketball court that Bill made his biggest contributions. He was named to the All-League second team as a sophomore and junior and blossomed as a senior for the Vikings with a first team nomination along with being named as the League's Co-MVP. Bill led the Vikings in scoring at 15.7 ppg. as he finished his high school career with 815 total points. Upon graduation from West and then Cortland State University, Bill embarked on the second stage of his basketball career playing a lot of 3-on-3 tournaments. Among the 27 tournaments he has played in since 1992, Bill has competed in 15 Gus Macker Tourneys along with Hoop It Up, the Jumpin Jack in Rochester and others in places like Hershey, York, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and at Toronto's Skydome. During that time, his teams have compiled a 101-31 record with eleven tournament championships. Bill was also instrumental in helping to organize local basketball tournaments. Bill currently resides in Avoca with his wife Shawna and two children, Sarah and Taylor.
