REBECCA SCANLON graduated from Corning West High in 1997. She was instrumental in convincing the CPP School Board into approving girls lacrosse as a varsity sport. After attending school board meetings for two years, the Board finally adopted the idea and Rebecca became a member of the inaugural girls lacrosse team at West High. She served as team cocaptain and was the leading scorer with 49 points. Following graduation from West, Rebecca attended the University of Buffalo where she was a member of the women's lacrosse club team. She served as team vicepresident as she scheduled practices, games and travel arrangements. Rebecca then was awarded a lacrosse scholarship to Canisius College. While at Canisius, Rebeccea was selected as the Most Valuable Offensive Player in 2001 and was the team's leading scorer as a senior. In her two years at Canisius, she finished her career as the second alltime leading scorer, second in goals scored, third alltime in assists and sixth alltime in ground balls. Also during her high school career, Rebecca was a key member of the Lady Viking volleyball and softball teams.
