WILLIAM (BILL) STEELE JR.
WILLIAM (BILL) STEELE JR. has been involved with coaching baseball in the Coming area for the past 33 years. He began as a volunteer coach with Little League in 1974 and after five years moved on to Babe Ruth League. He began coaching the Coming American Legion baseball team since the 1983 season. For the past three seasons, Bill has also been an assistant coach at Coming Community College. Under the guidance of Bill, the Corning Legion team has won 749 games with 1997 serving as the best season when they went 57-6 and ended the campaign with a berth in the state finals. During his 23 years, Bill's teams have won 18 county titles, four district titles and the western regional title twice. During his tenure, Bill has also coached four All-Americans - Rick Czaikowski (Haverling High), John Saleno (Coming East), Joel Stephens (Elmira Notre Dame) and Dan Cevette (Elkland HS) along with nine players who have been drafted by major league organizations. Currently, Bill is serving as the Vice-President of the Coming Kiwanis Club and is the tournament director of the Randy Naylor Wooden Bat Tournament and the Joel Stephens Wood Bat Invitational Tournament.
