MARIETTA SCHEER
Track & Field - 2010

MARIETTA SCHEER graduated from Corning East in 1977. She was a member of the Trojans girls track team for three years in the shot put and the discus. During her high school career, Marietta won both of these events in every dual meet except two. During her junior year, Horseheads had a girl transfer in who was one of the best at both events in the entire country. As a sophomore, Marietta finished first in the Steuben County meet in both the shot put and the discus. During her junior year, she once again won the county meet in both events and finished second in the Sectionals in both events. When she was a senior, Marietta was a county meet three-peat champion in both events and added the discus title in the Sectional meet with a new Sectional record of 122 feet, 4 inches. This toss along with her shot put throw of 35 feet, 6 ½ inches were also Corning East records and Corning District records. As a matter of fact, these two records have yet to be broken since 1977. They are the longest standing records in the history of girls track and field in Corning-Painted Post school district. Following graduation, Marietta attended Alfred State, and she is currently a registered nurse.
