SSC Player Code of Conduct
All parents must abide by the policies and decisions of SSC
- Parents will not force children to participate in sports.
- Parents will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for our youth, not for adults.
- Parents will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety children or the safety of others.
- Parents will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
- Parents (and guests) will be positive role models for children and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, referees, Summerville Soccer Club officials, and spectators at every game and practice.
- Parents (and guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct (directed toward any referee, coach, player, Summerville Soccer Club official or other parent) such as booing, taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures.
- Parents will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the participants.
- Parents will teach children to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
- Parents will demand that children treat other players, coaches, referees, Summerville Soccer Club officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
- Parents will teach children that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that children will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
- Parents will praise children for competing fairly and trying hard, and make their child feel like a winner every time.
- Parents will never ridicule or yell at their child, or any other player, for making a mistake or losing a competition.
- Parents will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the participants ahead of any personal desire they may have for their children to win.
- Parents will respect the referees and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront them.
- Parents will demand a sports environment for their child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and will refrain from their use both before and during all trainings and games.
- Parents will refrain from coaching children or other players during games and trainings, unless they are one of the official coaches of the team.
- Parents also agree that if they fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, Parents will be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to the following:
- Verbal warning by official, head coach, and/or a disciplinary agent of SSC
- Written warning from the club
- Parental game suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file by SSC and the appropriate governing Association
- Parental season suspension
