2015 Accomplishments

 

Program Development and Enhancements

  • Enrolled a combined 2,500 players in the U5-U12ASA recreational soccer league and U13-U19 Suburban Friendship League (SFL) in 2015
  • Enrolled 675 players in travel soccer, ages U9-U19
  • Hosted over 1,250 players in the Winter Futsal League including a high school division where each of Alexandria’s public and private high schools were represented.
  • Enrolled approximately 650 unique families and 1,000 annual participants in Tots Soccer
  • Offered summer training programs in the evenings and full-day camps.
  • Hosted the 4th Annual ASA SoccerFest in May 2015 for 2,000+ recreation players at the GW fields
  • Hosted ASA’s 2nd annual travel tournament (2015 Spring Kick-Off) with over 150 teams
  • Invested in new equipment and goals at Jefferson Houston, Hammond and Witter fields

 

Expanded Community Outreach Initiatives

  • Added a part-time multi lingual community outreach staff member
  • Developed and strengthened partnerships with local non-profits including Casa Chirilagua, Community lodgings, Child and Family Network Centers and ACT for Alexandria.
  • Worked with ACPS social workers to attend back to school events, fairs and outreach events to reach more children and families in Alexandria
  • Improved the scholarship application and allocation process to streamline enrollment and better measure participation.
  • Allocated over 1,000 scholarship club wide in 2015 totaling over $150,000 in aid
  • Continue the development of new programs to better serve low income youth in the City of Alexandria

 

Improved Coaching

  • The technical staff now includes a full time Technical Director, Director of Youth Development, Director of Recreation and Academy Director.
  • Thirty-one travel coaches are on staff; all with national coaching licenses through U.S. Soccer
  • All travel coaches were required to attend multiple internal coaching training led by the ASA technical staff
  • Improved and distributed the age-appropriate soccer curriculum to all 250 volunteer rec coaches
  • Over 75 recreational league coaches attended the ASA Fall coaches clinic
  • Refocused program goals to emphasize skill building and character development

 

Strengthened and Professionalized the Association

  • Now have a comprehensive full time staff including an Executive Director, Office Manager, Outreach Coordinator, Facilities Manager, Technical Director, Director of Recreation and Director of Youth Development. 
  • Launched new and improved web tools to include a redesigned homepage and new travel website
  • ASA’s Fundraising Committee hosted its fourth annual successful “Kickin’ It” Event
  • Participated in ACT for Alexandria’s Spring2ACTion, raising over $50,000 in one day of fundraising
  • Strengthened board committee structure, increased participation, and updated bylaws and handbooks
