Strikers Spring 2017
The SCUYMCA Strikers Soccer League for Children with Special Needs

South Carolina United YMCA Strikers

Striking Down Barriers, Striking Up Friendships

The South Carolina United YMCA Strikers is committed to supporting soccer players whose needs are not met by other South Carolina United YMCA programs. Our program is designed for players with special needs who may require modifications and accommodations to the game in order to fully participate. Players will learn how the game is played and develop sportsmanship, teamwork and soccer skills. Friendship, fun and participation will be emphasized.

The Strikers meet on Sundays in the late afternoon. There are no weekday practices. Each match lasts approximately 90 minutes. The players begin with a warm-up and then move to individual skills challenges that include dribbling, passing, and shooting. The skill challenges allow each player to develop at his or her own pace and developmental level. The Strikers team is then divided by size and skill level and small-sided games are played. This is then followed by penalty kicks for all of the players. Typical players from other South Carolina United FC teams are also incorporated into the program and will have direct interaction with the Strikers players.

The design of the program will group players according to areas of ability and pllayers will not be assigned to specific teams. All players will have the same color jersey and be on the same team - "the Strikers."  Players will then be grouped into pools, and these groupings will change from week to week.  Players will be given different game vests each week for small-sided matches.  The Sunday afternoon games will be played at the Ballentine Park and BB&T Soccer Complex.
Spring 2017 Game Schedule

The registration fee includes a uniform jersey and socks for each player.  Shin guards are required and can be purchased at Walmart, Dicks, Soccer Plus, etc. Cleats are also recommended but not required and can also be purchased at the same places.

Strikers will play games on the following dates at the Ballentine Park Complex.  Field number is U6A.

The entrance to the complex is across the street from Ballentine Elementary School on Bird Rd.  Follow Bird Rd. and then turn left up the hill into Ballentine Park.  If you miss the turn and go straight, you will enter the BB&T complex which are the bigger fields.  We will meet at the U6A fields adjacent to the gravel parking lot in Ballentine Park.

Volunteers  and players need to sign in so that we have a record of your participation.  Volunteers will receive a Strikers t-shirts when they have participated for the 2nd time in a season.

Each player should wear soccer cleats and shin guards covered fully by the player’s socks.
